Deep Ray Parallel Raytracer
Bernhard Buehlmann
The Deep Ray parallel raytracer can be used from every Web browser. It enables the
remote processing of BSDL scenes. A scene can be uploaded to a Supercomputer, which
renders the image using a parallel raytracer based on the MPI message passing interface. The Deep Ray application be found here.
The Deep Ray concept has been presented at the HPCN98 at Amstardam.
The abstract of the paper
The traditional complex access procedure still prevents a lot of scientists to migrate
their applications to massively parallel computers and to benefit from their computing
power. We present a new approach for obtaining a simpler user interface using standard
components of today's Internet technologies. By means of a parallel raytracing
application, called DeepRay, as an example we show how to implement a simple yet powerful
interface to supercomputers.
