I have read this page two or three times and I think I realise that  
it has been written with a fairly strict sense of grammar.

Specifically the pattern

The characters [, ], and (, ) delimit
"

I have to say that when I first read this, I though to myself the  
characters $[ $, $] $,  If I can use the Smalltalk representation to  
indicate how I parsed the sentence.  Its repeated in the box at the  
bottom of the page.  In a way I am learning something new from this  
book and also dangerous with my existing knowledge so I am not  
necessarily the correct demographic.

As a piece of feedback I did find it very hard to read and imagined  
that the authors would have already decided to not do "The characters  
[ ]  and ( ) delimit..".  I was just interested in the motivation.
